ISSUE
Some 2004 F-Super Duty vehicles built after 9/29/2003 and 2004-2005 Excursion vehicles built 9/29/2003 through 1/10/2005, all equipped with the
6.0L engine, may exhibit any of the following:
^
Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0488 and/or P1334 with no driveability symptoms
^
Exhaust smoke while operating in elevated idle operation/PTO, charge protect, or cold idle kicker mode
^
Harsh 3-2 grade load braking downshifts in Tow/Haul mode due to shift initiating on boost pressure
^
Shift busyness in Tow/Haul mode
^
Harsh lock-up during the 5-6 shift
^
Harsh 3-5 upshift during light throttle acceleration
ACTION
Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using WDS release B38.9 and higher or B39.1 and higher. This new
calibration is not included in the B39 CD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
NOTE
IF P0488 REMAINS AFTER REPROGRAMMING, PERFORM NORMAL PC/ED DIAGNOSTICS. DIAGNOSTIC IMPROVEMENTS WERE
MADE FOR P0488 AND THE PCM MAY NOW BE IDENTIFYING AN ACTUAL FAULT.
NOTE
ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS CALIBRATION ARE DIAGNOSTIC IMPROVEMENTS FOR P0231 (FUEL PUMP CIRCUIT FAULT), P2287
(ICP SENSOR INTERMITTENT CIRCUIT FAULT), P0470 (EXHAUST PRESSURE SENSOR).
