The above concerns can be caused by oil entry into the throttle position sensor. Oil contamination can affect the functioning of the sensor indicated by
EEC IV Self Test, codes 23, 53, 63 or 73. If pinpoint Test "DH" (Section 25, 1984 Emission Diagnostic Manual) directs the replacement of the TP
Sensor a new TP sensor and gasket (Kit #E4ZZ-9B989-B) should be ordered. Follow the replacement procedure to install.
If after performing the EEC IV Quick Test (Section 16, 1984 Emission Diagnostic Manual) and Pinpoint Test DH (Section 25, 1984 Emission
Diagnostic Manual), the TP Sensor needs to be replaced, the following procedure should be used:
1.
Replace the TP Sensor with service Sensor (E4ZZ- 9B989-B) referring to Shop Manual Group 24 except do not tighten the 2 mounting screws.
2.
Install an EEC IV Breakout Box, Rotunda 014-00322 or Special Service Tool T83L-50 EEC IV, or equivalent.
