1981-1983 1.6L production TFI Distributors have modules with .031 thick blade connectors. All service 1.6L stator assemblies built since late 1983 are
compatible with modules having .025 thick connectors. When new service stators are assembled to the early build modules, the connector assembly force
may be excessively high resulting in a poor connection and/or possible damage to the module. (Refer to Figure 19).
To assure good connections, prevent module damage and ease assembly, attempt to assemble the connectors prior to installing the stator assembly in the
distributor.
If the stator assembly is being replaced, refer to the procedure on page 23-05-6 of the appropriate Shop Manual (Engine - Powertrain). Apply grease to
the module back as specified.
To assemble (plug-in) the stator connection to the EFI module:

Hold the stator connector in place in the distributor by hand and carefully insert the left blade into the proper terminal of the connector. Align
the other (2) blades and carefully squeeze the assembly together. Be sure the middle and right blades are properly engaged in the terminals of
the connector. If mating of the module blades to the connector is difficult or excessive force is encountered, do the following:

Apply silicone grease to the old (removed) module blades/connectors and assemble it to the new stator connector several times. Repeat this
procedure until assembly force feels reasonable and normal. Refer to Stator Replacement Procedure Article 84-21-15.
When assembly force is reasonable proceed with the re-assembly as per above article.
To assemble (plug-in) the stator connection to the TFI module:

Hold the stator connector in place in the distributor by hand and carefully insert the left blade into the proper terminal of the connector. Align
the other (2) blades and carefully squeeze the assembly together. Be sure the middle and right blades are properly engaged in the terminals of
the connector.
