Removal
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable and remove steering wheel.
2.
Remove upper and lower shrouds and steering column lock actuator knob and spring, Fig. 11. Discard knob.
3.
Disconnect all electrical connectors and remove turn signal switch.
4.
Remove upper shaft bearing and sleeve. Discard sleeve.
5.
Remove bolts connecting housing to outer tube flange bracket. Rotate key to START, pull actuator interlock from tube and lift casting from upper
shaft.
6.
Remove ignition switch and lock cylinder.
7.
Insert screwdriver into column lock gear and turn gear until gear retainer is broken loose. Discard retainer.
8.
Remove lock bearing, gear and actuator assembly.
Installation
1.
Install actuator assembly into housing, Fig. 11, and move assembly all the way toward steering wheel.
2.
Install lock gear so that last tooth of gear is positioned into last tooth of actuator assembly.
3.
Insert housing bearing and rotate 90 degrees. Insert lock gear retainer into cylinder bore and seat retainer using a {5-8} inch socket and hammer.
