To fabricate the tool, obtain a steering gear pinion cap, part number E3FZ-3 568-A and 3/8-24 1-1/2 long bolt. Drill and tap a 3/8-24 thread through the
center of the cap (Figure 7).
Use this tool instead of tool number T81P-3504-T in Step 9 of TSB 83-12 and Step 8 of Section 13-46-17 of the 1983 Shop Manual. All other
procedures and tools remain the same. The tool is used by installing the drilled and tapped cap into the pinion bore in place of the normal cap as
illustrated. Insert the bolt through the cap and tighten it until the valve and pinion assembly is pushed free from the gear assembly. Remove the bolt and
cap and continue servicing the gear as described in the Shop Manual or TSB.
