Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair

Fig. 3 Shock absorber strut upper mounting components. Except Tempo & Topaz

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove rear compartment access panels. On four-door models, remove quarter trim panel.
3. Loosen top shock strut attaching nut, then remove wheel assembly.
4. Remove clip retaining brake hose to rear shock and position hose aside.
5. Loosen but do not remove two nuts and bolts securing shock strut to spindle.
6. Remove top mounting nut, washer and rubber insulator, Fig. 3.
7. Remove two bottom mounting bolts, then the shock strut from the vehicle.
8. Reverse procedure to install.
