This article releases a service kit and instructions to modify the valve body 1-2 TV modulator valve to service a no 1-2 shift condition during
acceleration.

Some vehicles may exhibit a no 1-2 upshift condition during acceleration. The 1-2 upshift can only be obtained by backing off the throttle. The condition
is accompanied with a free engine (neutral) during partial backout at speeds near 30 mph.

The cause of this condition may be a stuck 1-2 TV modulator valve. Since the governor may cause a similar concern, it is important to verify the neutral
interval condition during partial throttle backout at speeds near 30 mph.

The condition can only be confirmed after valve body assembly removal. Refer to the appropriate section of the 1982/1983 Car Shop Manual for Valve
Body Removal.

With separator plate and gasket removed (refer to Valve Body Disassembly in the appropriate Car Shop Manual), verify the above conditions. A
brinelling effect or bore deformation will be apparent on the bore surface where the 1-2 shift valve stops. It is this brinelling or deformation condition
that causes the 1-2 TV modulator valve to stick at its most outward position.

If the condition exists, clean up the valve body bore and install one of the following kits, dependent upon vehicle model year and valve body prefix. The
kits contain (1) 1-2 shift valve and (1) 1-2 TV modulator valve. The chart below shows applications for each.
