Steering Column Lock: Service and Repair
Ignition Lock Drive Gear Replace
1982---83 ESCORT, LYNX, EXP & LN7
Removal
1.
Remove lock cylinder assembly.
2.
Insert screwdriver into lock gear recess and turn until gear retainer is broken loose. Discard retainer.
3.
Remove lock bearing, gear and actuator assembly.
Installation
1.
Install actuator assembly into lock housing and push assembly all the way toward steering wheel.
2.
Install lock gear and position it so that last tooth of gear meshes with last tooth of actuator.
3.
Insert housing bearing, rotate 90 degrees and insert new retainer. Seat retainer with {5-8} inch socket and hammer and rotate gear and actuator
assembly to align bores of bearing and lock gear.
4.
Install lock cylinder assembly.
