Turbo Boost Gauge: Description and Operation
Two calibrated pressure switches provide the driver visual indication that turbo boost pressure is satisfactory and visual and audible indication when
turbo boost pressure is unsatisfactory. One switch will illuminate the green Turbo lamp located on the instrument panel when turbo boost pressure levels
are within satisfactory limits. The second pressure switch will turn off the green Turbo lamp and illuminate the red engine warning lamp and sound the
audible buzzer when excessive turbo boost pressure or high engine oil temperatures are encountered. When the red engine lamp is constant and buzzer
sounds, the turbocharger is in an overboost condition, reduce engine speed immediately until buzzer ceases and warning lamp goes off. When the red
engine warning light flashes on and off with no buzzer, this indicates excessive engine oil temperature, reduce engine speed to approximately 2500 RPM.
The engine warning lamp should go out within 5 minutes. When the red engine warning lamp flashes on and off and buzzer sounds simultaneously,
excessive turbo overboost and/or high engine oil temperatures are occuring, reduce engine speed immediately. Whenever the engine warning lamp has
illuminated or the audible buzzer sounds, the vehicle should be inspected as soon as possible to determine the cause. With ignition switch in start
position and engine not operating, the warning lamps should glow and the buzzer should sound to indicate the electrical circuits are operating properly. If
warning lamps do not glow or if buzzer does not sound, the boost/overboost electrical system should be checked as soon as possible.
