Fluid Line/Hose: Service and Repair
Flushing and Cleaning

NOTE: MERCON Automatic Transmission Fluid is being replaced by MERCON V as a service fluid.

CAUTION:  Test the Torque Converter/Oil Cooler Cleaner to ensure a vigorous fluid flow is present before proceeding. Replace the system filter if
flow is weak or contaminated.

1. Disconnect the fluid cooler tubes at the cooler bypass valve (CBV). 

2. Connect the cleaner pressure and return lines appropriately.

(1) Connect the pressure line to the fluid cooler inlet tube.
(2) Connect the return line to the fluid cooler outlet tube.

NOTE:  Attach rubber hoses to the ends of the fluid cooler tubes to aid in connecting them to the cleaner.

3. Place the outlet end of the return line in the solvent tank reservoir.
4. Switch the solvent pump on. Allow the solvent to circulate a minimum of 5 minutes.

NOTE:  Cycling the solvent pump on and off will help dislodge contaminants in the cooler system.

5. Switch the solvent pump off.
6. Disconnect the cleaner pressure line at the fluid cooler tube.
7. Using compressed air, blow through the fluid cooler inlet tube until all the solvent is removed.
8. Remove the rubber hose from the fluid cooler tubes.

9. Connect the CBV to the transmission.

CAUTION:  Make sure the cooler bypass valve (CBV) is properly backflushed. Use dry compressed air to remove solvent.

NOTE:  The CBV has a check ball and will only allow flow in one direction.
