LIGHT TRUCK: 
1995-97 EXPLORER

ISSUE:
An overheating condition may occur to the Lamp Outage Module (LOM-2) with the installation of certain aftermarket trailer kits that improperly connect
to the tail and brake lamps circuits. These trailer wiring kits require additional current to drive external bulb loads and may cause the load resistors to
overheat. This condition could result in melting the LOM housing and adjacent materials, or under certain conditions may cause an electrical fire.

ACTION: 
Remove improper wiring and install the Ford authorized Trailer Tow Wiring Kit, and inspect the LOM assembly for heat damage by referring to the
following Service Procedure details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE 

NOTE: 

THIS TSB ARTICLE IS FOR THE 1995-97 EDDIE BAUER AND LIMITED EDITION EXPLORERS THAT DO NOT ALREADY CONTAIN
THE FACTORY INSTALLED TRAILER TOW FEATURE. AFTER COMPLETION OF THIS KIT INSTALLATION, THE VEHICLE WILL
THEN BE ELECTRICALLY EQUIPPED WITH A CLASS 1 TRAILER TOW SYSTEM.

NOTE: 

THIS TSB ALSO INCLUDES VEHICLES WITH TRAILER TOW OPTION WHERE TRAILER LIGHT HOOK-UP DID NOT USE IT.

Locate the -13412-A wire assembly in the vehicle. The 13412-A is similar to the 13412-B harness shown in Figure 1. The 13412-A is secured to
the frame (Figure 1) between the frame and the rear bumper. The wire assembly can be accessed from the underside of the vehicle.
