WIRING - LAMP OUTAGE MODULE HOUSING AND 
SURROUNDING PLASTIC COMPONENTS MELTED - 
EDDIE BAUER AND LIMITED EDITION MODELS 
EQUIPPED WITH MESSAGE CENTERS AND 
IMPROPERLY CONNECTED TOW WIRING KITS 
(VEHICLES BEING TOWED)

LIGHT TRUCK: 
1995-97 EXPLORER

ISSUE: 
An overheating condition may occur to the Lamp Outage Module (LOM-2) if modifications are made to the tail and brake lamp circuits. These wiring
modifications require additional current to drive external bulb loads and may cause the load resistors to overheat. This condition could result in melting
the LOM housing and adjacent materials, or under certain conditions, may cause smoke or potentially an electrical fire.

ACTION: 
Examine LOM-2 and wiring harness for damage. Replace LOM-2 unit if damaged. Repair wire harness if damaged. Refer to TSB Article 98-1-24 for
service parts.

NOTE: 

INFORM OWNERS OF EDDIE BAUER AND LIMITED EDITION EXPLORERS WITH MESSAGE CENTERS TO USE TOW KITS THAT
ARE INDEPENDENT OF THE EXPLORER WIRING SYSTEM. OWNERS SHOULD NOT USE TOW KITS THAT MUST BE ATTACHED
TO THE VEHICLE'S WIRING SYSTEM.
