Valve Spring: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Remove the camshaft roller followers.
2. Hold the valve in the cylinder head.

Remove the spark plug.

-

Apply a minimum of 965 kPa (140 psi) of compressed air to the cylinder.

3. Remove the valve springs. 

1. Use Valve Spring Compressor to compress the valve spring.
2. Remove the valve spring retainer keys.

4. Remove the following: 

1. Remove the valve spring retainer. 
2. Remove the valve spring.

CAUTION:  If a valve drops into the cylinder, remove the cylinder head.

5. Inspect components, if necessary.

INSTALLATION

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE:  Lubricate the parts with SAE 50W motor oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M2C908-A1 prior to installing.
