2. Verify the customer concern by operation the system in question.
3. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage:

Mechanical 
-

Switch(es).

Electrical 
-

Fuse(s).

-

Damaged wiring harness.

-

Loose or corroded connections.

-

Circuitry.

-

Damaged bulb.

4. If the concern is not visually evident, retrieve continuous DTCs and perform an on-demand self-test. Record results and proceed to the Symptom

Charts. See: Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures/With Power Windows Gem

CAUTION:  Before removing and installing the GEM or its connectors, disconnect the battery. Failure to follow this caution will result in GEM
storing many erroneous DTCs and it may exhibit erratic operation after installation.

CAUTION:  Be careful when probing the fuse junction panel, power distribution box, or any connectors. Damage will result to the connector
receptacle if the probe or terminal being used is too large.

NOTE:  If unable to communicate with the GEM, REFER to Information Bus. See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control
Systems/Multiplex Communication Network

NOTE:  If continuous DTCs are recorded and the symptom is not present when performing the pinpoint tests, an intermittent concern may be the
cause. Always check for loose connections and corroded terminals. Complete the entire pinpoint test related to the symptom before replacing the
GEM.

Without Power Windows Ctm

1. The interior lighting system is a Central Timer Module (CTM) controlled system.
2. Verify the customer concern by operating the interior lamps.
3. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.

Mechanical 
-

Damaged switch(es).

Electrical 
-

Fuse(s).

-

Damaged wiring harness.

-

Loose or corroded connector(s).

-

Circuitry Damaged bulb(s).

4. If the concern is not visually evident, determine the symptom and proceed to the Symptom Chart. See: Symptom Related Diagnostic

Procedures/Without Power Windows Ctm

CAUTION:  Before removing and installing the CTM or its connectors, you must disconnect the battery.

CAUTION:  Be careful when probing the instrument panel fuse panel, power distribution box, or any connectors. Damage will result to the
connector receptacle if the probe or terminal being used is too large.

NOTE:  Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) will be cleared from the  Central Timer Module (CTM) when the battery is disconnected.

NOTE:  If DTCs are recorded and the symptom is not present when performing the pinpoint tests, an intermittent concern may be the cause.
Always check for loose connections and corroded terminals.

Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

DTCs are erased when the diagnostic input is not grounded if the ignition switch has been moved to the START position any time during the diagnostic
test mode. DTCs are also erased when power is removed from the CTM.
