Torsion Bar: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Raise and support the vehicle.

WARNING: THE ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM MUST BE SHUT OFF PRIOR TO HOISTING,
JACKING OR TOWING AN AIR SUSPENSION VEHICLE. THIS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED BY TURNING OFF THE AIR
SUSPENSION SWITCH LOCATED IN THE REAR JACK STORAGE AREA. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN
UNEXPECTED INFLATION OR DEFLATION OF THE AIR SPRINGS WHICH MAY RESULT IN SHIFTING OF THE VEHICLE
DURING THESE OPERATIONS.

2. Remove the torsion bar cover plate

(1) Remove the torsion bar cover plate bolts.
(2) Remove the torsion bar cover plate.

3. Make preliminary adjustment references

-

Measure and record the length where indicated

4. Relieve the torsion bar tension.

(1) Remove the torsion bar adjuster bolt.
(2) Install Torsion Bar Tool with Torsion Bar Tool Adapters in the A slots on Torsion Bar Tool.
(3) Tighten Torsion Bar Tool until the torsion bar adjuster lifts off of the adjuster nut.
(4) Remove the torsion bar adjuster nut.
(5) Remove Torsion Bar Tool.
(6) Remove the torsion bar and torsion bar adjuster.

Repeat for the other side.
