Explorer 2WD V6-245 4.0L SOHC VIN E EFI (1997)
INSTALLATION
1. Install the front wheel spindle tie rod.
CAUTION: All torque reaction must be taken with a wrench on the rack flat end. Only use hand tools when working on the front wheel spindle
tie rod to avoid damaging the teeth on the rack and pinion.
NOTE: The valve portion of the steering gear must remain unsupported while installing the front wheel spindle tie rod. This applies to both ends.
2. Grease the seating surfaces for the bellows with Multi-Purpose Grease DOAZ-19584-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESB-MIC93-A.

Evenly apply approximately 1638.7 cubic mm (one cubic inch) to the seating surface of the large end of the bellows.

Evenly apply approximately 819.35 cubic mm (one half cubic inch) at the outer bellows retaining bead.
3. Install the bellows.
(1) Position the bellows.

Slide the bellows into place.

Insert the vent tube into the fitting in the bellows.
(2) Install a new inner bellows clamp.
(3) Install the outer clamp.
4. Install the Steering Gear.
5. Align the vehicle.
