TRANSMISSION - 5R55E AND 4R44E - NEW DIRECT
CLUTCH STEEL PLATES - SERVICE TIP 

LIGHT TRUCK: 
1997 AEROSTAR, EXPLORER, RANGER 

ISSUE: 
New direct clutch steel plates have been released for service. The new plates are thicker than the previous design and must not be intermixed.

ACTION:
When servicing the direct clutch, be certain to use the correct direct clutch steel plates. Refer to the following Service Procedure and Application Chart
for the correct steel plate to use.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

Measure the thickness of the original steel plate and record the measurement.

2.

It the original plate is 1.71 mm thick, use the 1.71 mm Steel Plate (F5TZ-7B442-A).

3.

If the original plate is 2.14 mm thick, use the 2.14 mm Steel Plate (F77Z-7B442-AA).
