Companion Flange: Service and Repair
Rear Axle

REMOVAL 

1. Remove the rear disc brake rotors.

NOTE:  The rear wheels and disc brake rotors must be removed to prevent brake drag during drive pinion bearing preload adjustment.

2. Mark the driveshaft flange and rear axle companion flange for correct alignment during installation.

NOTE:  If the companion flange is being replaced, it is not necessary to mark the driveshaft flange.

3. Remove the four rear driveshaft bolts and disconnect the driveshaft. Wire the driveshaft aside.

4. Install an inch-pound torque wrench on the pinion nut and record the torque required to maintain rotation of the pinion through several revolutions.
