ISSUE:
Production transmission main controls built between 4/15/97 and 6/2/97 may not contain an extension lube orifice due to a flaw in the main control
casting.
ACTION:
Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Perform normal diagnosis as found in the 1997 Explorer Service Manual.
2.
If the production main control is to be serviced, check the build date and part number found on the main control casting and refer to the
Identification Chart and notch identification in Figure 1. DO NOT INSTALL AN EXTENSION HOUSING LUBE ORIFICE, OR THE
TRANSMISSION EXTENSION HOUSING BUSHING MAY FAIL. The production main controls listed in the Identification Chart do not
require the extension housing lube orifice to be installed.
3.
If the production main control is to be replaced, the service main control contains the extension housing lube orifice.
