The repetitive warning messages are:
-

CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM

-

TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED

-

CHECK TRANSMISSION

-

LOW FUEL LEVEL

-

LOW OIL PRESSURE

-

CHECK ENGINE TEMPERATURE

The repetitive warning messages are displayed at a fixed interval whenever the ignition switch is turned to the ON or ACC position. To remove a
repetitive warning message, press the RESET button. The message will only reoccur after 10 minutes or until the warning condition is corrected.

The non-resettable warning messages will display whenever the ignition switch is turned to ON and a fault occurs in a system. The fault must be
corrected to clear the non-resettable warning messages.

The non-resettable warning message is:
-

DOOR AJAR

Flexible Fuel Vehicles (FFV)

The message center will display COMPUTING FUEL while the alcohol in fuel percentage is being calculated by the instrument cluster and the
powertrain control module (PCM) to display the fuel economy information in the message center.

Inspection and Verification

INSPECTION AND VERIFICATION

NOTE:

-

A new instrument cluster must be reconfigured.

-

When installing a new instrument cluster, it is necessary to contact the Instrument Cluster Program.

1. Verify the customer concern by operating the instrument cluster and message center to duplicate the condition by observing the indicators, warning

displays, and gauges to determine if they are operating correctly with the ignition switch:
-

in RUN with the engine off.

-

in START before the ignition switch is released.

-

in RUN with the engine running.

2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.
3. If the inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, repair as necessary.
4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and

select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
-

check that the program card is correctly installed.

-

check the connections to the vehicle.

-

check the ignition switch position.

5. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool manual.
6. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the diagnostic tool responds with:

-

CKT930, CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Information Bus (Module Communications Network).

-

NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for the instrument cluster, refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators or for the generic electronic
module (GEM), refer to Body Control Systems (Multifunction Electronic Control Module).

-

SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and carry out self-test
diagnostics for the instrument cluster or the GEM.

7. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, refer to the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index or the GEM Diagnostic
