ISSUE
Some vehicles built before 3/1/2001 may exhibit a high speed driveline vibration that may cause possible transmission and/or driveshaft damage. This
may result in the 4R70W transmission extension housing bushing to be spun out of the extension housing or may cause the extension housing seal to
leak.
ACTION
Verify the extension housing bushing is spun out of position or damaged or the extension housing seal is leaking. If normal diagnostics cannot pinpoint
the cause, reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The updated calibration will reduce the maximum top speed of the vehicle to reduce the
possibility of vibration. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
If the driveshaft or extension housing bushing is damaged, replace or repair per the following procedure and 2001 Workshop Manual Procedures.
Reprogram the PCM with an updated calibration. Refer to the following PCM Calibration Information Chart.
1.
Raise the vehicle on a hoist and inspect the transmission extension housing bushing and seal for damage.
2.
If the extension housing bushing or seal is damaged, remove the driveshaft and transmission extension housing per 2001 Workshop Manual,
Section 307-01B. Install a new Extension Housing Assembly (F3LY-7A039-A), and a new Extension Housing Gasket (F6AZ-7086-A). Verify
transmission fluid level.
3.
If the driveshaft or yoke is damaged, replace as necessary. Use the part list for the correct driveshaft application. During driveshaft installation,
