TRANSMISSION - 4R70W - NO FORWARD OR DELAYED ENGAGEMENT

ISSUE
Some vehicles equipped with a 4R70W automatic transmission exhibiting a no forward or a delayed engagement may have a damaged forward clutch.
This may be caused by rapid, Drive (D) to Reverse (R) engagements before the automatic transmission fluid reaches a normal operating temperatures
and by Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration causing a lack of Forward Clutch pressure and insufficient lubrication.
ACTION
Verify forward clutch failure. In order to prevent reoccurrence, the (PCM) should be reprogrammed to the latest level calibration as part of the forward
clutch repair procedure. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Follow normal diagnostic procedures and verify the condition.
1.
If the condition is valid, first repair all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that may be present
2.
Then repair all internal transmission components as required.
3.
Clear all DTCs and validate the repair.
