Attach the Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-133 (40-009) to the vehicle harness side of the driver side safety belt retractor pretensioner
electrical connector. See Figure 1.

Connect the battery ground cable.

Perform a system proveout by turning the ignition key from OFF to RUN and visually monitoring the airbag readiness light on the instrument
panel. The airbag readiness light will illuminate for approximately six (6) seconds and then turn off. If an airbag Supplemental Restraint System
(SRS) fault is present, the airbag readiness light will either:
a.
fail to light
b.
remain lit continuously
c.
flash
The flashing may not occur until after approximately 30 seconds after the ignition switch has been turned from OFF to RUN. This is the time
required for the airbag diagnostic monitor to complete the testing of the system.
If the airbag system requires repair, the repair must be made by a qualified technician. Refer to the appropriate service repair manual for diagnostic
procedures.
If the airbag readiness light remains off and there are no audible tones (beeps) after the proveout, the airbag system is operational.
WARNING
TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY MUST BE DEPLETED
BEFORE REPAIRING OR REPLACING ANY AIRBAG SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) COMPONENT. TO DEPLETE THE
BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT AT LEAST ONE MINUTE. BE SURE
TO DISCONNECT AUXILIARY BATTERIES AND POWER SUPPLIES (IF EQUIPPED).

Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute.
25.
Remove the driver side seat belt anchor bolt from the floor.
26.
Remove the driver side seat belt retractor assembly retainer bolt and remove the assembly from the vehicle.
Installation
NOTE:
If the safety belt guide (D-ring) cover is damaged or if it does not remain closed, replace it with a new one.
1.
Transfer the D-ring cover to the new retractor assembly. Position the new retractor assembly to the left B-pillar and install the retaining bolt.
Tighten the bolt to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
