AFFECTED VEHICLES:
CERTAIN 1997 F-150 AND F-250 MODELS OVERVIEW
This procedure will have you inspect the fuel lines to determine if any service is required.
A fuel line assembly must be replaced if it is:
a.
leaking.
b.
damaged at the flexible portion of either fuel line (front or rear) near the fuel filter assembly.
c.
contacted by the 4x4 manual transfer case shift lever (only 4WD vehicles equipped with manual transfer case).
During the inspection, you will also be looking for proper clearance between the forward portion of the fuel lines and the dash panel. If there is contact
or if clearance is below specifications, the fuel line front retaining bracket may be adjusted (bent) to obtain proper clearance only if other damage is not
observed as noted above. DO NOT BEND FUEL LINES. BEND ONLY THE BRACKET AS NECESSARY TO OBTAIN PROPER CLEARANCE.
NOTE:
DO NOT ORDER PARTS UNNECESSARILY. FORD MOTOR COMPANY EXPECTS LESS THAN 1% OF ALL INSPECTED VEHICLES
WILL REQUIRE A NEW FUEL LINE. IF ADDITIONAL SERVICE PARTS ARE REQUIRED, THEY CAN ONLY BE ORDERED FROM THE
RECALL HOTLINE AT 1-800-325-5621.
Inspection
1.
Only on 4WD models equipped with a manual shift transfer case, the transfer case must be shifted to a specific gear to perform a part of this
inspection. Choosing the specific gear depends on which transmission the vehicle is equipped with. Refer to the chart. The transmission model can
be determined by the code on the certification label located on the left B-pillar. Shift the transfer case into the appropriate gear before raising the
vehicle.
2.
Turn the air suspension switch off, if equipped, then raise and support the vehicle on a hoist.
