Safety Recall 96S59 - Certain 1997 Model Year F-150 Trucks equipped with 4.6L Engines and, based on Ford Motor Company records, delivered in
certain cold weather states - PCV Tube Foam Insulation Sleeve.
Affected Vehicles
Certain 1997 model year F-150 trucks built from 11/26/95 through 7/8/96 at Norfolk and Kansas City Assembly Plants with 4.6L engines that are, based
on Ford Motor Company records, delivered in the following states: Alaska, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan (Upper
Peninsula), New York, Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
NOTE:
Some of the vehicles affected by Safety Recall 96S59 are also affected by Safety Recall 96S62 involving the inspection of seat belt bolts. Please
check OASIS. Dealers are to complete both recalls, if applicable, before releasing the vehicle.
Reasons For Recall
Vehicle operation at highway speeds for extended intervals during ambient temperatures below minus 20 degrees F (minus 29 degrees C) may result in
ice forming in the throttle body of the engine. This may interfere with proper closing of the throttle plate. This combination of climatic and driving
conditions is expected to occur only under unusual circumstances in those states listed above. Should this condition occur, the vehicle may not slow
down or stop as promptly as expected. An accident could potentially result.
Service Action
To correct this condition, a foam insulating sleeve will be installed over the PCV tube assembly.
If an owner whose vehicle is not listed in OASIS believes his/her vehicle should have been included, or this condition is observed in a vehicle not
covered by this action, dealers are to contact their regional office for approval and submit the claim under this program to obtain reimbursement.

Ford Motor Company has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1997 Model Year F-150 trucks equipped with 4.6L
engines.
Safety Defect
Vehicle operation at highway speeds for extended intervals during ambient temperatures below minus 20 degrees F (minus 29 degrees C) may result in
