Air Bag Deactivation Switch: Description and Operation
PASSENGER AIR BAG DEACTIVATION (PAD) SWITCH (REGULAR CAB ONLY)
The passenger air bag deactivation (PAD) switch:
-
is mounted to the instrument panel, below the instrument panel center finish panel.
-
provides the driver with control to enable/disable the passenger air bag module using the ignition key.
-
should be used whenever a child safety seat is being used in the front passenger seating position.
The PAD switch communicates with the restraints control module (RCM) via a high-speed controller area network (HS-CAN). The HS-CAN is also
shared with the occupant classification sensor (OCS) system.
With the ignition ON and the PAD switch in the OFF position, the PAD indicator will be lit. With the ignition ON and the PAD switch in the ON
position, the PAD indicator will be unlit unless an occupant whose weight is below a preprogrammed set point of the OCS system is sitting in the front
outboard passenger seat.
