Spare Tire and Wheel Replacement
Affected Vehicles:
1997 F-150 4 x 4 trucks equipped with the optional off-road equipment group, built at the Norfolk Assembly Plant from start of production through June
24, 1996 and at the Kansas City Assembly Plant from start of production through July 31, 1996.
Owners will call a Toll-Free number to have a mounted and balanced tire and wheel assembly sent to the dealer of their choice.
Removal
1.
Carefully remove the jack handle from the retaining clips (located above the radiator in the engine compartment). See Figure 1.
2.
To lower the spare tire, insert the jack handle through the access hole left of the license plate. Turn the jack handle counterclockwise until the tire
is on the ground and there is slack present in the cable. See Figure 2.
3.
Slide the retainer through the center of the spare tire assembly. See Figure 3.
