Inspect truck for presence of the front shield of the midship fuel tank, see attachment I for front shield location.
Removal
1.
Drain the fuel into a suitable container.
CAUTION:
Drain fuel in open, well ventilated areas only, away from ignition sources (e.g. electrical equipment, electrical switches, smoking
materials, etc.).

To avoid electrical sparking at the tank, disconnect the ground cable on the battery. Then disconnect the fuel gauge sending unit wire at the fuel
tank.
3.
On vehicles with dual tanks, disconnect ground wire after draining both tanks. Remove the clamps and disconnect the hoses attached to the fuel
tank. On a vehicle equipped with a fuel evaporative emission control system, disconnect the vapor line from the vapor emission control valve.
