1.
Disassemble valve lifter, Fig. 8, then clean all parts in solvent and wipe dry.
2.
If any parts of lifter are worn or damaged, or plunger is not free in body, replace entire assembly.
3.
Check that roller rotates freely and is not worn or damaged.
4.
Lubricate all components with clean engine oil, then assemble as shown in Fig. 8.
