Idle Speed: Adjustments
Curb Idle Speed
1. Apply parking brake and block drive wheels.
2. Place transmission in NEUTRAL or PARK.
3. Start engine and allow to reach operating temperature.
4. On manual transmission models place transmission in Neutral. On automatic transmission models, place transmission in Drive.
5. Using a suitable diesel engine tachometer, check curb idle speed. Curb idle speed should be as listed on the Vehicle Emissions Control
Information (VECI) decal located on the valve cover.
Idle Speed Adjusting Screw
6. If necessary, adjust by turning idle speed adjusting screw in to increase speed, and out to decrease speed.
7. Place transmission in Neutral and accelerate engine momentarily. Recheck idle speed and adjust as necessary.
