Full Floating Rear Axles - Hub Seal Leaks

AXLE - LEAKS - HUB SEAL LEAK - VEHICLES WITH FORD DESIGN FULL FLOATING 10.25" (260 MM) AXLES
LIGHT TRUCK:
1986-94 F-250, F-350
ISSUE:
Beginning 5/2/94 an improved rear hub oil seal, oil slinger and hub inner bearing went into production for the subject vehicles. The purpose of the
improvements is to reduce the possibility of hub seal leaks on the Ford design 10.25" (260 mm) Ring Gear Full Float Hub.
ACTION:
Install a new service kit on subject vehicles whenever the old style hub seal is serviced to upgrade to the latest level.
BACKGROUND
The new rear hub inner cone and roller bearing is 0.032" (.813 mm) shorter than the old cone and roller bearing to compensate for the thickness of the oil
slinger.
NOTE:
NEVER MIX THE OLD PARTS WITH THE NEW PARTS AS THEY ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE.
If a hub seal has to be replaced for any reason, follow the procedure shown on Instruction Sheet # 6498 included in the service kit (F4TZ-1177-C).
FULL FLOATING REAR AXLE IDENTIFICATION
A GREEN label will be affixed to each brake drum to identify and track the first rear axles built with the new oil slinger, seal and bearing from 5/1/94
through 5/31/95. The label will read: "ATTENTION TECHNICIAN, IF THE HUB ASSEMBLY NEEDS SERVICE, CONTACT FORD
ENGINEERING FOR ASSISTANCE: 1-800-FORD-AXL, (USA). CANADA: (810) 826-5326." As in the past, the rear axle build date, ratio, ring gear
size and plant code will be shown on the embossed metal Service Identification Tag which is located on the rear axle cover.

The new rear hub oil seal, slinger and inner bearing will be available as separately serviced items and in kit form.

These parts are available for all 1986 through 5/1/94 built F-250 and F-350 vehicles equipped with a Ford design Full Floating 10.25" (260 mm)
