ISSUE:
With the engine at idle speed, the dual mass flywheel may go into resonance, resulting in objectionable noise and rough idle.
ACTION:
Replace flywheel and retaining bolts. Refer to the following procedures for service details.
1.
Inspect the flywheel dust cover as a source of the noise or vibration. Repair as required. If the dust cover is not the source of noise or vibration,
continue to step two.
2.
Remove flywheel and thoroughly clean face of crankshaft. Refer to the 1991 Light Truck Shop Manual Section, 03-01D, for flywheel service
details.
NOTE: DO NOT USE ORIGINAL RETAINING BOLTS. ALWAYS USE NEW RETAINING BOLTS. THE NEW BOLTS HAVE A GRAY
PRE-APPLIED SEALANT ON THE THREADS WHICH PREVENTS OIL SEEPAGE TO THE FLYWHEEL.
3.
Install new flywheel. Use new bolts. Refer to the Light Truck Shop Manual, Section 22-12, for flywheel installation details.
NOTE: CUSTOMER MAY EXPERIENCE AN INCREASE IN NEUTRAL GEAR ROLLOVER NOISE AFTER INSTALLATION OF THE NEW
FLYWHEEL. THE NOISE OCCURS WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL AND THE CLUTCH PEDAL RELEASED AND IS NOT
DETRIMENTAL TO THE VEHICLE.
