Axle Beam: Service and Repair
Axle - F-250, F-350
NOTE: LH shown, RH similar.
Removal
NOTICE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure can result
in major service expense. They must be replaced with the same part number or an equivalent part if replacement is necessary. Do not use a
replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct
retention of these parts.
1. Remove the wheel spindle. For additional information, refer to Wheel Spindle - F-250, F-350 See: Front Steering Knuckle/Service and Repair.
2. Remove the radius arm. For additional information, refer to Radius Arm - F-250, F-350 See: Radius Arm/Service and Repair.
3. NOTE: In order to obtain clearance to remove the pivot bolt from the RH axle, it will be necessary to raise the LH axle.
Remove the pivot nut, bolt and the axle.

Discard the nut and bolt.
Installation
1. Inspect the pivot bushing for wear or damage. Install a new bushing as necessary.
2. NOTICE: Tighten the axle pivot nut with the suspension at curb height or damage to the bushing may occur.
Position the front axle into the pivot bracket, install the new pivot bolt and nut until snug.
3. Install the radius arm. For additional information, refer to Radius Arm - F-250, F-350 See: Radius Arm/Service and Repair.
4. Install the wheel spindle. For additional information, refer to Wheel Spindle - F-250, F-350 See: Front Steering Knuckle/Service and Repair.
5. With the vehicle at curb height, tighten the new axle pivot nut to 175 Nm (129 lb-ft).
6. Check and, if necessary, align the front end.
