STEERING COLUMN SHAFT LOWER FLEX JOINT INSPECTION
AFFECTED VEHICLES:
1999 MODEL YEAR F-250 (OVER 8500 GVW), F-350/450/550 SUPER DUTY SERIES TRUCKS
SERVICE PROCEDURE
The purpose of this recall is to inspect the four (4) lower flex joint retaining rivets. One or more rivets may not have been staked correctly.If properly
staked, all four (4) flex joint rivets will visually look the same. Two (2) rivets are visible from below the vehicle, and two (2) are visible from above
through open hood.
1.
Leave steering wheel unlocked.
2.
Open hood.
3.
Unsnap the stone-shield retention ear from the steering gear hydraulic line and move the shield up the shaft toward the dash wall, to expose the
coupling.
