Steering Damper: Service and Repair
Steering Linkage Damper - F-250, F-350, 4x2
Removal and Installation
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. CAUTION: The alignment of the steering linkage damper bracket is critical to avoid interference, binding or overextension of the damper. Do not
loosen or remove the steering linkage damper bracket U-bolt nuts.
Remove the 2 steering linkage damper nuts and bolts.
^
To install, tighten to 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.).
3. NOTE: Make sure the sump (bulge on the steering linkage damper body near the bolt eye) is facing downward before tightening the fasteners.
NOTE: When repairing the steering linkage clean the steering linkage damper shaft of all corrosion and dirt. Buff the damper shaft smooth.
Repairing the linkage changes the damper travel slightly. A dirty/corroded shaft can damage the damper Seal and create a leak.
