23. Loosen the cam cover bolts and remove the cam cover.

Remove the cam cover gasket. Clean and inspect the mating surface.
CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools
cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
NOTE: Cam cover bolts are part of the cam cover and cannot be removed.
INSTALLATION
1. Apply silicone in two places where the engine front cover meets the cylinder head.

Use Silicone Gasket and Sealant F6AZ-19562-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M4G323-AB.

cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
NOTE: If the cam cover is not secured within four minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned-with Metal Surface Cleaner
F54AZ-19A536-RA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M5B392-A. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness, or four minutes,
whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.
