PERFORMANCE POOR - HESITATION - STALLS - HIGH IDLE SPEED (5.0L EFI)
LIGHT TRUCK 1985 F SERIES, BRONCO
The subject vehicles may exhibit poor driveability if a short exists in the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) circuit. The following drive concerns may be
exhibited:

High idle speed (1000 rpm max.)
^
Momentary hesitation at "throttle tip in"
^
lntermittent stalls
^
No start
^
Vehicles may show a Code 63 during self-test
Some vehicles may have TP sensor wires that are long and because of their position, the wires may rub on the rear air pump bracket. The sensor wires'
insulation may become worn through allowing bare wires to intermittently short to ground.
If this condition is found, tape the protective conduit so that it butts against the sensor connector insuring that the conduit (not the wires) lay on the air
pump bracket. Repair chaffed or bare wires as needed, using electrical tape.
