Article No. 85-11-17
EXHAUST - MANIFOLD (6.9L) - MOUNTING HARDWARE USAGE (FROM ENGINE SERIAL NUMBER 125552 AND BELOW)
LIGHT TRUCK 1983-85 E & F SERIES
On production engines from S/N 125553 and up, the exhaust manifold bolt threads have been changed from standard to prevailing torque type threads
(eliminating the need for bolt lock tabs). Also, a new thicker, hardened washer replaced the original washer.
When exhaust manifold removal and replacement is required on vehicles with S/N 125552 and under, the original mounting hardware should be replaced
with the following new hardware:
E4TZ-9S425-A
Exhaust Manifold Bolt
(prevailing torque threads)
E4TZ-9A461-A
Exhaust Manifold Hardened
Washer
E4TZ-9454-A
Exhaust Manifold Shouldered
Stud (prevailing torque threads)
NOTE:
This one shouldered stud is for Econoline only - right manifold, second hole from rear).
The bolt tightening sequence and torque values are the same as specified in TSB 84-16-30. The new prevailing torque exhaust manifold bolts can be
reused several times as long as the feature of prevailing torque is evident.
