VEHICLES INVOLVED:
Certain 6.9L diesel 1983 and 1984 F-250HD/F-350 4X4 chassis cabs and F-250HD/F-350 4X4 pickups are included in this recall. All units
manufactured by Ford as chassis cabs are intended to receive this recall service. Although all affected pickup owners are to be notified, only those
pickups which have been altered by removal of their pickup boxes and installation of other bodies or equipment are to receive the recall service. Affected
vehicles were built at the Twin Cities, Kansas City, Norfolk and Ontario Truck Assembly Plants from Job #1, 1983 through April 16, 1984.
DESCRIPTION OF DEFECT AND CORRECTION:
Recent 30 MPH frontal barrier crash tests conducted by Ford indicate that when tested at their unloaded vehicle weights as specified by FMVSS No.
301, ("Fuel System Integrity"), the above described vehicles may leak fuel in excess of that permitted by the Standard. During the Ford test, the
fuel/water separator canister was punctured by the windshield washer reservoir bracket, resulting in leakage from the canister into the engine
compartment. While diesel fuel is substantially less volatile than gasoline, a potential for fire exists if a source of ignition is present.

RECALL SERVICE HAS BEEN PERFORMED. NOTE: FOR DEALERS IN AREAS AFFECTED BY U.S. LAW - SALE OR DELIVERY OF
VEHICLES THAT DO NOT CONFORM TO APPLICABLE FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS MAY SUBJECT THE
DEALER TO PENALTIES OF UP TO $1000 PER UNIT UNDER THE U.S. NATIONAL TRAFFIC AND MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY ACT.

NOTIFICATION OF OWNERS/DEALER ACTIONS:
The enclosed list identifies vehicles delivered to your dealership which are involved in this recall. Kit code "A" represents those 6.9L diesel F-250HD
and F-350 4X4 vehicles manufactured as chassis cabs, all of which require this recall service. Kit code "B" represents those 6.9L diesel F-250HD or
F-350 4X4 pickup vehicles which require this recall service only if the pickup has been altered by removal of its pickup box and installation of an after
market body or equipment. Other eligible vehicles may be brought to your dealership by their owners for this recall service. Those units also are to be
corrected as promptly as possible. If the owner of any eligible vehicle does not have a Customer Notification and Dealer Claim Form (FED-1864 or
FCS-1864), a blank Form 1864 should be completed by you and submitted for reimbursement. For dealers in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands - To
determine vehicle. eligibility, please use "CARES."
Owners of vehicles shown on the enclosed recall listing are being notified by First Class Mail. Only those "F" Series vehicles manufactured as chassis
cabs and those pickups which have been altered by removal of their pickup boxes are to be serviced under this recall. If you have knowledge that a
suspect vehicle has been sold, but the owner's name and address does not appear on the listing, please contact the owner immediately and provide him a
copy of the owner letter. If the owner of any vehicle cannot be contacted or does not make an appointment to have his vehicle corrected, advise your
supervising Ford location of the owner's name and address so that we can handle further notification. If no vehicle listing is enclosed, you are not
involved at this time, and this Service Recall Bulletin is for information only.
Owners are being encouraged in the owner letter to ask about any other outstanding recalls on their vehicles when they contact you to arrange an
appointment for this recall service. You can advise them through use of CARES of other recalls, if any, that may be uncompleted. You should attempt to
complete all open recalls on these vehicles on a single visit by the owner.
Dealer Obligations, Technical Instructions and Parts Requirements
DEALER OBLIGATIONS:
Dealers are obligated to perform this recall service promptly after the owner brings his vehicle in for repair. United States law requires that we advise
owners in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and certain territories of the procedure to be followed by them in informing the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration, if the defect is not corrected without charge within a reasonable time after the vehicle is brought in. This notice is included in the
owner letter (copy attached) to be sent to owners in Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Canal Zone, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.
