Rocker Arm Assembly: Service and Repair
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect battery ground cables.
2. Remove fan shroud and drape over fan.
3. If working on righthand cylinder bank, proceed as follows:
a. Remove engine oil dipstick and tube assembly and the valve cover bracket.
b. Remove transmission dipstick and filler tube.
c. Remove glow plug controller.
d. Remove accessory drive belt.
e. Remove the alternator and bracket.
f.
Remove the fuel filter assembly.
4. For either side remove the air cleaner assembly,valve cover attaching screws and the valve covers.
5. Remove rocker arm post mounting bolts.
6. Remove rocker arms and posts, and the pushrods in order so they may be installed in their original positions.
7. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Install rocker arm post attaching bolts with timing mark set at 11 o'clock position, as viewed from front of engine, and tighten to 20 ft lb.
b. Install copper colored end of pushrod toward the rocker arm.
