Front Brakes - Pad/Caliper Rattle on Bumps

2000-2001 EXCURSION, SUPER DUTY F SERIES

ISSUE
Some vehicles may exhibit a front brake pad or caliper rattle when going over bumps. This may be caused by the brake pads rattling in the calipers.

ACTION
Install new front disc brake pads that have a pressure sensitive adhesive on the outside of both the inboard and outboard pads of the front calipers. Refer
to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

Raise and support the vehicle.

2.

Remove the front wheel and tire assemblies.

3.

Remove front disc brake caliper pin bolts.

4.

Lift the brake caliper from the brake caliper anchor plate.

5.

Remove the V-springs.

6.

Remove the disc brake pads.

NOTE

DO NOT REUSE THE STAINLESS STEEL SHIM WHEN USING THE RATTLE FIX BRAKE PAD KIT.

7.

Remove the plastic liner from both new Pads (1C3Z-2001-BA) exposing the adhesive, and install pads.

NOTE

THE BRAKE PAD WITH THE "EARS" GOES ON THE PISTON SIDE OF THE CALIPER.

8.

Install the V-springs into the brake pads.

9.

Install the disc brake caliper.

10.

Install the disc brake caliper pin bolts. Torque to 56 Nm (42 lb-ft).

11.

Install the wheel and tire assemblies. Torque to 200 Nm (148 lb-ft).

12.

Lower the vehicle.

NOTE

PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES AFTER INSTALLING WHEELS BEFORE MOVING VEHICLE. THIS WILL ALLOW THE
BRAKE PADS TO MAKE CONTACT WITH THE ROTOR.

13.

Verify front brake pad/caliper rattle is corrected.
