Driver/Vehicle Information Display: Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
INSPECTION AND VERIFICATION
NOTE:
-
The message center is also referred to as the overhead trip computer (OTC).
-
The OTC for the F-Super Duty must be reconfigured upon installation of a new message center. Refer to the diagnostic tool help screen on the
configuration card to program the fuel tank size.

The OTC for the Excursion does not require reconfiguration when a new module is installed.
1. Verify the customer concern.
Visual Inspection Chart
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage; refer to the chart.
3. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and
select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:

check that the program card is correctly installed.

check the connections to the vehicle.

check the ignition switch position.
4. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool manual.
5. NOTE:
-
Before carrying out the self-test diagnostics, the headlamp switch must be turned to the full ON position and the vehicle must be running.

If the DTC B1342 is received, clear the DTCs and carry out the self-test again.
Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the diagnostic tool responds with:

CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Module Communications Network (Information Bus).

NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for OTC, go to Pinpoint Test B for F-Super Duty or Pinpoint Test C for Excursion. See: Pinpoint Tests/Test B See:

SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous DTCs, erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out self-test diagnostics for the OTC.
6. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics. See: Diagnostic Trouble

7. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. See: Symptom Related Diagnostic
