Transmission Cooling
Automatic Transmission
Early build automatic transmission fluid cooling system consists of:

Rear fluid cooler tube, rear of transmission to remote filter
^
Rear fluid cooler tube, front of transmission to remote filter
^
Remote filter under bell housing
^
Quick connect secondary latches
^
Remote filter bracket (model dependent)
^
Middle fluid cooler tube assembly, remote filter to quick connects
^
Front fluid cooler tube assembly
^
In-tank fluid cooler
^
Auxiliary oil-to-air (OTA) fluid cooler
^
Hose clamps
In early build vehicles, the transmission fluid flows from the transmission front fitting to the remote filter, to the in-tank fluid cooler, to the OTA fluid
cooler, back to the remote filter and returns to the transmission rear fitting.
Late build automatic transmission fluid cooling system consists of:
^
Rear fluid cooler tube, rear of transmission to quick connect
^
Rear fluid cooler tube, front of transmission to quick connect
^
Quick connect secondary latches
^
Front fluid cooler tube assembly
^
In-tank fluid cooler
^
Auxiliary OTA fluid cooler
^
Hose clamps
In late build vehicles, transmission fluid flows from the transmission front fitting, through the rear fluid cooler tube assembly, through the front fluid
cooler tube assembly, to the in-tank fluid cooler, to the OTA fluid cooler and returns to the transmission rear fitting.
CAUTION: Do not attempt to backflush and clean the oil-to-air (OTA) transmission fluid cooler. Install a new OTA transmission fluid cooler
as part of a transmission overhaul or exchange. Failure to follow these directions may result in transmission damage.
