Ignition Rotor: Service and Repair
Rotor Alignment
NOTE: Initial timing is not adjustable. Refer to following Rotor Alignment for additional adjustments.
ROTOR ALIGNMENT

Remove distributor cap. Position ignition wires and cap to the side, then remove the rotor.

Check rotor alignment by:

Rotating engine until No. 1 piston is on compression stroke.

Slowly rotate engine until rotor alignment tool can be inserted in alignment slots in sleeve assembly and adapter.

Read timing mark on damper. If timing mark is 0 degrees +/- 4 degrees, rotor alignment is acceptable.
Late 1980-82 Rotor Alignment

Adjust rotor alignment by:

Rotating engine until No. 1 piston is on compression stroke.

Slowly rotate engine until timing pointer aligns with 0 degree timing mark.

Loosen two sleeve assembly adjustment screws and insert alignment tool into slots in sleeve assembly and adapter.

Tighten two sleeve assembly screws to 25-35 lb-in. (3.4 Nm)

Replace rotor on sleeve assembly. Install distributor cap and ignition wires.
