The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor changes resistance in response to changing temperature of the engine coolant. The sensor resistance
decreases as the engine coolant temperature increases providing a signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) indicating the temperature of the
engine coolant.
