REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).
2. Remove the VSS retaining bolt.
3. Remove the sensor from the rear axle housing.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: Clean the axle mounting surface thoroughly. Use care to prevent dirt from entering the rear axle housing.
1. Inspect and clean the magnetized vehicle speed sensor pole piece and make sure it is free from loose metal particles that could cause erratic system
operation.
2. Replace the vehicle speed sensor O-ring.
NOTE: Do not apply pressure to the plastic electrical connector while mounting the vehicle speed sensor.
3. Lightly lubricate the vehicle speed sensor O-ring with clean motor oil and insert into the rear axle housing mounting hole until it is properly seated.
The vehicle speed sensor flange should slide to the mounting surface and make sure the air gap setting is between 0.127-1.14 mm (0.005-0.045
inches).
4. Install the vehicle speed sensor retaining bolt and tighten to 34-40 Nm (25-30 lb ft).
