Transmission Cooler: Description and Operation
FLUID COOLER, INTEGRAL
All vehicles with an automatic transmission are equipped with a transmission fluid cooler that is integral to the radiator assembly. In operation, the
transmission fluid travels from the transmission to the transmission fluid cooler in the radiator side or bottom tank. The transmission fluid cooler
transfers the heat from the transmission fluid to the engine coolant.
FLUID COOLER, AUXILIARY
Some vehicles with an automatic transmission are equipped with an optional auxiliary transmission fluid cooler that is mounted to the radiator
assembly. In operation, the transmission fluid travels from the transmission to the auxiliary transmission fluid cooler. The transmission fluid cooler
transfers the heat from the transmission fluid to the outside air.
