NOTE:
Before proceeding with this article, verify that the engine is operating within the guidelines stated in the 6.9L Diesel Engine Diagnostic Guide
(FPS-8433A). Form FPS- 8433C will replace FPS-8433A in the fourth quarter of 1985.
The subject concern may be due to vehicles upshifting at the low end (2700-2900 rpm) of the 1-2 and 2-3 rpm upshift tolerance band (2700-3400 rpm).
Installation of Upshift Kit (part number E5TZ-7A288-A) improves the early upshift condition by tightening the tolerance band resulting in a 3000 rpm
minimum 1-2 and 2-3 wide open throttle shift. This results in slightly improved vehicle performance with a 2 to 4 mph increase in kickdown, and wide
open throttle shift points.
