SAFETY RECALL 88S39 - CERTAIN 1987/88 F-350 4x2 (EXCEPT 1988 F-350 SUPER DUTY) TRUCKS AND 4x2 CHASSIS CABS WITH DUAL
REAR WHEELS FOR FRONT-END SHIMMY CONCERN
Dear Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Ford Motor Company has
determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1987 aud 1988 F-350 4x2 model trucks and chassis cabs (Regular Cabs,
Super Cabs aud Crew Cabs) equipped with dual rear wheels.
Safety Defect Some of these trucks may experience severe front-end shimmy. Shimmy is noticed as a wobble or rapid sideto-side movement of the
truck's front end. During severe shimmy, the whole truck may feel as if it is shaking or rapidly wobbling from side-to-side. The shimmy condition could
worsen with continued driving, resulting in damage to chassis components and possible loss of steering control. A vehicle crash could result.
You Need to Take Action Now
1)
If your truck now has or has had a severe shimmy, we recommend that you return it to your dealer immediately for inspection and
modification. Your dealer will provide you with a free (except for fuel) loaner vehicle, if one is available and suitable for your use.
2)
If your truck has not had severe shimmy, we recommend that you contact your dealer promptly after April 15, 1988 and ask for a service date.
Repairs
At no cost to you, your dealer will inspect, modify and/ or replace, as necessary, the following components:

front suspension
^
steering gear
^
steering linkage
^
tires
^
frame and frame liner
How Long Will It Take?
The time needed to service the truck, in most cases, will be about one day.
