Clutch Master Cylinder: Service and Repair
1. Remove pushrod and retainer bushing from cross-shaft lever pin.
2. Disconnect the interlock switch connector plug.
3. Remove two nuts and support bracket retaining the clutch reservoir and master cylinder assembly to firewall.
4. Remove clutch hydraulic tubes in engine compartment, noting the routes followed, then the attaching hardware for the hydraulic tube retaining
clips.
5. Remove the clutch reservoir and master cylinder assembly from the firewall. When the master cylinder studs are free of panel, rotate the cylinder
105 degrees, counterclockwise to permit the interlock switch to pass though the panel.
6. Use a screwdriver or equivalent tool and lift the two retaining tabs of the slave cylinder retaining bracket. Remove tabs from the bellhousing lugs
and slide outward.
7. Remove clutch cylinder from vehicle.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Ensure that routing of tubes follow the same routing as removal, keeping all tubes away from engine exhaust.
b. Install all tubing retaining clips.
c. Install the slave cylinder by pushing the slave cylinder pushrod into the cylinder. Engage the pushrod into the release lever and slide the slave
cylinder into bellhousing lugs. Seat cylinder into recess in lugs.
d. Press the pushrod with retaining bushing onto the cross-shaft lever pin until the bushing tabs snap into position in grooves. The flanged side of
the bushing must be towards the cross-shaft lever.
e. Ensure that clutch fluid is full, then depress the clutch pedal at least ten times to verify smooth operation and proper release. Do not overfill
reservoir, as the upper part must accept fluid that is displaced from the slave cylinder as the clutch wears.
